Touching Lives Where It Counts

Written by Vincent Lee

During the time while Jesus was walking on earth, He touched many people’s lives and healed them. In Mark 1:41-43, a man with leprosy came to Jesus and asked for healing.  Jesus, filled with compassion, reached out His hand and touched the man, and said, “Be clean!”

The man was cured immediately. Another time, a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, touched the cloak of Jesus, and she was healed. After Jesus discovered who had touched Him, He said to the woman, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.” (Mark 5:34). Many in our world do not realize the extent of their spiritual suffering because they are without Christ, until it is too late.

“Touching Lives Where It Counts” is the theme for this year’s ACEM 29th Missions Conference. How do we touch lives where it counts? As followers of Jesus Christ, we were given the command and power to go into the world and be His witness. We are sent by Christ to bring the good news, the Gospel of peace and healing, to all nations, to people from different countries and languages. As God said, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” For it is the power God, as Paul said, that “for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.”

Where do we “touch lives” that counts? We start from where we are now–our home, our friends, our colleagues, our relatives, our neighbours. For it is the love of God that compels us to take the initiative to build relationship with others, in the hope that we can gain a window of opportunity to share our lives with them, which has been transformed by the power of the Gospel. As Jesus touched the lives of people wherever He went, we are to touch the lives of people wherever we are. As we continue our life journey, we follow His guidance to other parts of the world, through short term missions trips, or as a long term missionary, for the sake of touching people’s lives with the Gospel.

We hope that through this missions conference, we will be challenged to see our world and other people from the Kingdom’s perspective, so that our Lord Jesus Christ can use and empower us to go to our neighbours, our country, and our world, to touch lives where it counts.
