The Lord Appreciated our Serving

By Rev. John Kao

When Jesus was on earth, He always appreciated and complimented His apostles' serving.  When the time comes, in front of His throne, He will further reward these faithful servants!  Today, all the ACEM Ministers, Deacons and brothers and sisters who are serving faithfully are not only praised by all brothers and sisters, but will also be comforted and rewarded in the Lord.

1) Appointment by our Lord - being good and faithful (Matt 25:14-31)

The Lord rewards everyone with different gifts.  As long as we don't calculate the amount of gift given, and we contribute what we have to the kingdom of God, God will surely bless and reward us.  Members of the ACEM Council meet regularly after work, discussing matters of the ACEM family until midnight.  They and their understanding spouses are good, faithful, and praiseworthy!

2) Attentiveness to His teaching - understanding the heart of God (Luke 10:38-42)

Serving is a type of worship.  Sometimes it doesn’t really matter what task we take up, but whether we understand the heart of God.  Mary chose to listen when Jesus most needed someone to understand his situation; that was the most precious way to serve our Lord.  Today our Lord Jesus Christ still delivers his message through sermons, small groups, articles and videos over the Internet and other mass media.  Are we like Mary, understanding his heart and "choosing what is better"?

3) Sacrificing for the sake of the Gospel (Mark 14:1-9)

Though Jesus Christ repeatedly mentions his coming sacrifice for the Gospel, the apostles were ignorant and were busy fighting for their place in His kingdom.  Mary was able to discern God's will and used the incense she had saved up on Jesus as incense for burial.  The Gospel was all about our Lord Jesus Christ dying on the cross, being buried and resurrected from the dead (I Cor 15:3-4). No wonder Jesus Christ praised Mary by saying,

"I tell you the truth, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her" (Mark 14:9).  Today many brothers and sisters sacrifice for the furthering of the kingdom of

God; they will all be remembered by God.

4) Little did the widow possess, but she made the best offering (Luke 21:1-4)

Our Lord Jesus is the creator and ruler of all things.  He doesn’t need anyone's offering, but he honours our offering.

He was content with the rich man for pouring his wealth in the house of God, at the same time satisfied with the poor widow's two coins. The Lord is very clear about the proportion between one's offering and wealth.  Today, brothers and sisters of ACEM are very generous in offering.  Their offering to the general fund, church building, charities and missionaries confirmed the promise of God, that "it's better to give than to receive."  We are also blessed in Him; otherwise how could the offering amount of our sister church increase day by day?

5) My Father will honour the one who serves me. (John 12:26)

Back in the days when Jesus Christ foretold his sacrificing plan to his apostles, he encouraged his disciples to also sacrifice for the Gospel.  He wants His disciples to learn from Him, follow His path, and serve Him.  He also promised that "My Father will honour [him]."  The creator of the universe will 'treasure' lowly servants like us.  This is such an honour and glory to those that serve Him.  Dear Lord, we serve at different positions, in humility offering the little that we can accomplish.  But you love us so and treasure us so.  We are truly full of thanksgiving, full of joy. Hallelujah.  Praise the Lord!
