My Reflecting in Kenya 2011

Rev. Sophia Wong
Pastor of Richmond Hill Christian Community Church

1.    Awakening – Lord, your kingdom is here. You have given me a fresh understanding of the spiritual realm. It is no longer a short term trip and a short term commitment. Under His transforming power, I finally realized that it is a pro-longed encoring voice of Kibera. It is so near & so real. I cannot believe the poorly dressed children, their hungry faces, their desperate needs for medication, their patience in waiting for food, their gratitude for drinking water. I feel so ashamed of myself. We are not coming to help them. They are helping us to help them!!

2.    In Christ, there is no difference between East and West – It is so real. The Africans and Canadian Chinese are formed under One God the Father, are redeemed by One Christ Jesus the Son, and are revived by One Spirit. As we pray together as a community of Faith, we are in One Hope, One Faith, One Baptism, and One Body of Christ. There are no boundaries in race, ethnics, and nations!

3.    His kingdom reigns – I cannot believe the environment outside Kibera; there are so many newly built buildings. At the beginning, I do wish the slum residents can move into these buildings. I heard that those buildings were built by the pirates in the East coast. They spent their illegal & corrupted money to make an investment on the poor. I cannot stay asleep. My heart sinks when I see souls being captured to worship other gods. I desire to be a watchman to pray that His kingdom reigns in the hearts of the Kenyans. I am committed to fill my mind to be kingdom focused rather than my needs focused. May the almighty God cast away the idols, selfishness, corruption, power, money, immorality rooted in the dark corners of man’s hearts!

4.    A cup of cold water – The desperate needs of the Kenyan children are in my mind throughout the night. In Isaiah 41:18 - I ask the Lord to make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. He will turn the desert into pools of water, and the parched ground into springs.......

So that people may see and know, may consider, understand that the hands of the Lord has done this, that the Holy One of Israel has created it.

I further pray to the Lord, according to Isaiah 44:3 – He will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground. He will pour out His Spirit on His offsprings and His blessings on His descendants. May the Lord rebuild & restore Kibera!

5. Prayer – In Isaiah 51:3 – The Lord will surely comfort the Kenyans, who pursue righteousness and seek the Lord. He will look with compassion on all the ruins. He will make the deserts of hearts into the Garden of Eden. Joy and gladness will be found in the Kenyans, thanksgiving and the sound of singing. Isaiah 51: 6, 8 - His righteousness will never fail. His righteousness will last forever. Isaiah 51:6, 8 - His salvation is on the way. His salvation through all generations!!
